2021.2 Highlights

Domeble Web Shop Assets (2021.2)


In the Menu Bar, select Web Shops > Domeble. This provides direct access to Scenebox 360 by Domeble from within VRED. Five new Domeble 360° HDRs and corresponding backplates are provided. Browse through the content and shop. An HDR and its accompanying backplate are downloaded, once you've enter your user account information, and clicked the Download Now button.

The downloaded compressed file is found in the location listed in the Download Directory field. To change this, see How to Change the Download Directory.


Triplanar Projection Manipulator (2021.2)


This feature provides a new manipulator for controlling the projection shape and angle when projecting UVs.

These options were added to the UV Editor's Projection section.

- The Triplanar projection mode was added to Mode.
- A reset projection settings button Reset was added next to Manipulate.
- Object Center coordinate options for Center X, Y, Z and Rotate X, Y, and Z were added.

Material Group Import (2021.2)

We added the Import Group Materials option to the File Specific Options of the Import File(s) dialog. Choose whether or not to import MaterialGroup nodes for part files, assemblies, or instances.

When disabled, Import Group Matrials doesn't create additional MaterialGroup nodes for part files, assemblies, or instances, and simple discards the materials. For some Inventor workflows, you may want this option enabled to create these MaterialGroup nodes.

We also added Import Group Materials to Edit > Preferences > FileIO > Catia V5, under the File Specific section. Set whether this option's default behavior is for it to be enabled or disabled.

Python API (2021.2)

We added these commands to enable per view visibility of sceneplates:

. enableBackplates(), getBackplatesEnabled()
. enableFrontplates(), getFrontplatesEnabled()
. enableSceneplates(), getSceneplatesEnabled()

We added these commands to create and edit a clip in the Clip Maker:

. createAnimClip()
. addToAnimClip()
. findAnimClip()
. setAnimClipActive()
. setAnimClipDuration()
. setAnimClipEnd()
. setAnimClipFlipped()
. setAnimClipLocked()
. setAnimClipStart()

2021.2 Additional enhancements

SDKs: Updated SDKs for OpenVR to 1.12.5 and Oculus to 1.43.0
Qt: Updated Qt to version 5.15 to include the Chromium Engine 80
Dockable Windows Improved the initial position of dockable module windows
Deprecated Python Commands Marked deleteMaterials and undeleteMaterials as deprecated in Python documentation
Expiration Protection Improved the expiration date protection for VRED Go
Web Interface Resolution Added an option to fix the resolution for multiple users using the web interface

Bugfixes

- Cluster Manager: Fixed "start render" for some files
- Cluster Manager: Fixed failure detection when trying to write to invalid paths
- Cluster Manager: The Cluster Manager now works with older versions of VRED
- Cluster: Raytracing no longer crashes if live and offline renders have the same resolution
- FileIO: The Import visible option now respects visibility overrides in the assembly file
- FileIO: Import of Alias SubD Model no longer creates multiple shells for one SubD body
- GPU Raytracing: Fixed crash when starting GPU Ray Tracing after opening the GL Info window

- Rendering: Fixed broken images when using Cryptomatte
- Rendering: Fixed crash when clicking Edit under the Textures panel in the Final Render Pass dialog
- Smart References: Created Animation Blocks are now saved in Smart References
- Smart References: Fixed performance issues when referencing large files
- Smart References: These now report missing source file references for Catia V4, Catia V5, SolidEdge, SolidWorks, Step, ProE, and DGN
- Variants: Variant Sets in VR Menu are now sorted alphabetically
- Web Interface: Limited resolution to 4,096 × 2,304 to avoid issues in H.264 stream with high-resolution
